Grandmother Downs

Shower #1 is complete. Much work and preparation went into the shower including the creation of a diaper cake by my nephews. Look at how big and mature they are! Hunter is one lucky dude to have such fun cousins in the picture. Although they all want to be called "uncle." Fine by me, really.

I don't have pictures from the shower just yet. They are captive on Jennifer's camera until released and sent to me. However, the photo below will give you an idea of the loot that came home with me. I seriously opened gifts for 1.5-2 hours. I've been writing thank-you notes until my eyes start to blur and my handwriting becomes to messy to read.

It was a lovely shower full of people I love. I always leave parties in my honor wishing that there had been more time- to enjoy the food, to take in the beauty of the decorations, to talk with my friends. I'm always disappointed by how quickly the time goes by. And I'd like to make a motion that baby showers be held earlier in the pregnancy. I know it's fun for the mother-to-be to be really pregnant and showing off a big belly. However, I had more energy a couple of months ago and the shower wore me out! Plus, I would love a bit more time to get the nursery together now that all of the goods have arrived. Oh well, one little bit at a time and perhaps the house just won't be totally perfect when Hunter makes his arrival into the world.

The best part of the shower was the library stocking. Jennifer had included a slip of paper in each invitation asking for people to bring a favorite book for Hunter's library and for each person to sign the book. I had no idea that this request had been sent out. The result is incredible. Hunter received so many wonderful books signed by people who love our family and love Hunter already. And there is nothing I love more than good books. My paternal grandmother always gave her grandchildren books with her signature in the front. Those books are a treasure in the family.
