In the United States of America, there is no child naming police. I've discovered that parents can simply name their child anything they want even if it doesn't make sense, isn't spelled correctly, or is inappropriate.
My child's name is Hunter. A strong, solid name that's easy to spell and say. But, that's no fun around the NICU so I told one of the nurse practitioners that my baby's name is Hunt'er. Her face went a little white until I broke into a smile and revealed that I was just kidding about the "little comma in the sky" as some of the parents like to call an apostrophe.
One of the night nurses made this sign for my office door over the weekend.
La-Hunt'er.
Perfect. Absolutely perfect. I've learned that one may also say the hyphen in the name instead of allowing it to be silent.
Thus, La-Hunter could also be pronounced as La dash Hunt er.
Welcome to the weekend. This was my cuddle session with the pups when I got home. I'm on call this weekend and hoping for a quiet one.

Ah - I remember the days of being social worker for Pregnancy Medicaid. Just when I would think I'd heard the most unusual name to ever be thought up, someone would one-up it.
Hope your baby is doing well. Mine is starting Kindergarten in the fall. AHHH!
