Christmas cards
My pantry door is covered in Christmas cards. Bright, happy colors. Bright, smiling faces. Bright, happy messages. My card is the same. A jolly message from Jared, Alison, and Scout. Three beautiful, carefully chosen pictures representing the best of the best times. Next year, I say, let's all get honest and send out Christmas cards with photos of the worst of the worst. Now, naturally, I understand that we don't run around taking photos of the bad times. But, perhaps we should. And perhaps we should share them with others more often. I'm guilty of looking at blogs and facebook and feeling like my life is less than because my pictures (or lack of pictures) are less than. In reality, we present to the world through media what we want others to believe about us. I am seldom totally honest with myself or anyone else. So, next year, let's get honest with each other about what's really going on. Let's try being real. Even that would involve a picture of a happy time.
