Christmas in October

We are home from Birmingham where we celebrated Christmas in October! I've always loathed the whole Christmas is on the shelf before the pumpkins have even shown up at the farmer's markets thing. However, when you want to book a private photo shoot with Santa, it's best to get a head start on things. Thus, Grandma and Pop put up the Christmas decor and we gathered round in our holiday gear to welcome Santa.

Hunter loves books and I found a Christmas book that lights up on the last page. This was a winner and caught Hunter's attention for a few happy photos.

He was somewhat unsure about Santa, but deemed that the beard was real after giving it a good solid tug. Santa is quite lucky that his glasses are intact as those and earrings are Hunter's new items of choice.

And then the fun ended. This is actually my favorite photo. I've always loved the photos of children crying with Santa. It speaks to me about who the pictures are really for (the parents!), the overstimulation of the holidays, and the confusion around being cautious with strangers except for this one bearded, older man dressed in funny clothes in which case, just sit on his lap, relax, and smile.
It's fine.

We also did cookies and milk with Santa and I ended up in the kids' picture, but my child didn't. It was a chaotic environment to say the least and Scout certainly tried to take advantage of the opportunity to sneak in a cookie for herself. She may or may not have been successful with a couple of cookies. I'm actually not sure.

We ended up with a decent family photo and I like the color green more than I thought I did.

Jared's cousin grabbed the camera at one point and zoomed in for two pictures. They are definitely favorites of the bunch.

I am smitten by those sweet faces.
