Halloween

Happy Halloween! We had a party last night for a group of Jared's high school friends. And, we were lumberjacks. Lumberjack and Lumberjill to be specific. My costume was a little bit skanktastic. I've never done that before and I may never do it again, but now I have joined the ranks of many other young women out there who playboyed it up for Halloween.

More importantly though, the food. I made pretty darn amazing food. My crowning achievement were the caramel apples...

Crisp, green Granny Smith apples.

Delightful toppings.

Melty caramel and style points.

On a side note, caramel apples were a bit trickier than I had anticipated. I struggled to get the caramel get right. There's a sweet spot between too stiff and burned that came only when heavy cream was added. Then, there was a 10 second window after dipping the apple in caramel to getting the candy pieces coated evening all over the apple. Next, there was the quick transfer to the fridge before all the caramel and candy slid onto the tray. But, the apples were worth it, if for only for beauty alone. The salted caramel apple won the beauty contest in my opinion.

It's 9:40am and we still have two houseguests. We had six people spend the night. That's a good party.
