sneakers

A dear college friend contributed the following life lesson:

"It is not about me.
I am part of a larger world that lives and moves and has its being aside from me. If I get cut off in traffic and want to get angry, I reflect: It is not about me. We tend to get angry because someone has insulted us. With the traffic episode, someone did not recognize our worth, our humanity, our right to be in place. They offended us at the deepest core. Yet, you know what? It's not about us. They probably did not have those personal offenses in mind when they decided to cut us off. No, indeed, they were likely so wrapped up in themselves that they did not even once think about the person in the other car. Being able to recognize and realize that it is not about me prevents me from getting angry a lot of times when most people would say I would be justified with such anger."

Well said. Thanks for the wisdom.

Jared gave me the following words of advice based on years of research and self-awareness:

"Put your pants on before your shoes."

Thank you for that. Lovely.

But, he did mention his favorite quote..."It's better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
