All the time

So, the wisdom spilleth forth.

My little sister, Brigid (age 13), stated, "Do your homework or you get grounded."
Excellent advice. I might translate that to "Show up at work and get your shit done or you get fired."

A friend of mine from high school contributed the following:
"I'm not sure that it's a life lesson, but it's a lesson that has changed my life but it guides me as I teach: All of my students, no matter how frustrating or obnoxious or mean, are children of God. He died for them just like He died for me."

Keep it coming, folks. I love this.

God was really faithful today. I showed up to work to drugs in the cottage, a broken office phone, and a family FREAKIN' out on me. On a Monday morning. Labor Day morning. After my six day work week. Vacation seems like years ago. I really did think about just walking out the back door, throwing up a middle finger to the disease of alcoholism and addiction, and going out for a pedicure/massage/spa treatment/facial/lunch/dinner/brunch/walk in the park/staring at the wall session. But, my rational brain reminded that the work would just wait for me until tomorrow, so I might as well start chipping away at it today. During my forever long session with the family, a hummingbird whizzed by. Now, I adore hummingbirds. They shouldn't be possible and it is a constant reminder to be of the grace, imagination, beauty and intrigue of God. There has always been a hummingbird feeder at Bradford, but I had not ever seen a hummingbird in my year of work - until today. And then, my co-worker brought me this bag of veggies. Squash, zucchini, hot peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, okra! Hooray. So, God is good. Even when I am tired and grumpy and overwhelmed. God is good even when I can't figure out how to help my patients. God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good.

Two Things:

1. Peruvian Shamans believe that the hummingbird is a symbol of the connection between the material world and the upper world (or heaven). Thusly, they believe when we see a hummingbird on earth it is the very presence of God in our midst. I have had a new love of humming birds since I learned this.

2. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that needs "staring at the wall" sessions from time to time.
