Colors of fall

It was the prettiest of days on Saturday although chilly. I visited a dear friend just one exit up from the cemetery and stopped by after a nice chat and lunch with her.

The Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery is on one of the prettiest pieces of land I've ever seen and I've visited now Dad's grave in each season. This was my first visit in the fall and the surrounding trees were beautiful. The grass is thick and green over Dad's grave and I laid face down on the earth to be closer to him.

I don't go to the gravesite often as I don't think it's something Dad would want me to do. He was quite into life and would want me to be fully engaged with the living and breathing. I've visited the cemetery four times now since the burial service. I went on Memorial Day, once in December, once during maternity leave, and then Saturday. It took me a few moments to locate Dad's grave as so many new headstones have gone up that I found it disorienting. It was a reminder that so much life happens without me even knowing it. Many, many families have stood in that rotunda and said goodbye since we did over two years ago.
