Mornings are the best time of day. I've always felt this way and now it's official. Please see below for the evidence.
I mean, seriously, cutest baby in the world and what a way to wake up. Happy, happy, happy. It dissolved all of my frustrations over being up from 2:30-4:30am with him due to feeding, diaper changes, and general fussiness.
I love watching him really come into being. His eyes find me, he smiles and coos, and has man-sized burps. He's generally a chill baby with some bursts of fun personality. I find myself trying desperately to get him to smile because it's just so delightful and rewarding when he does.
We went to the pediatrician today for his two month check up. I remember when the doctor told us at the two week appointment to come back in six weeks. I'm sure my face registered pure terror at the thought of being left alone for six weeks with my infant. He reassured me that I could come in for weekly weight checks and visit or call with any needs. Amazingly to me, the six weeks passed and I never once called or stepped foot in the office. I could tell Hunter was gaining weight beautifully and I didn't have any major concerns. My confidence is building as I get to know Hunter and as I generally learn how to care for a child full-time.
Hunter is taking a nap right now. We've learned that his schedule is to sleep about 12 hours at night (between feeds and changes and fussiness). He then likes to be awake all morning, take a big mid-day nap, and then be awake until bedtime. He only seems to veer from this at Grandma and Pop's house. He melts into their soft chests like a warm marshmallow on a s'more and will sleep any time. I've learned to put a blanket on my shoulder before trying to get Hunter to take a nap on me due to the general boniness that is.
In other news, I passed my next pineapple birthday on May 28. Again, I wouldn't have even remembered if not for Teri. She is a faithful friend who always thinks to congratulate me on the accomplishment.
I'm only about 3 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight, but my body certainly feels different. I have some loser skin around my stomach and my breasts are large from breastfeeding. Thankfully, I walked aways without stretch marks. I thought I would exercise faithfully on maternity leave, but I've found it difficult. I love to walk with Hunter and Scout, but the south gets hot and humid quite quickly unless we hit it quite early.
Until next post...
