Hello North Carolina.

I went to visit Natalie. The trip was delightful. She is delightful. She could make any place delightful. We had a full weekend of fun, good food, and new friends for me to meet. On Saturday morning, we went to the Durham farmers' market. Yummy.

On Saturday afternoon we went to the UNC game versus Rutgers. Very fun and very sunny.
I do love light blue. UNC could be one of my teams based on team color alone. (Imagine my relief when the Tennessee Titans' colors turned out to be dark blue and light. Ahhh, I do look good in blue!)

We also hiked with her sweet dog, Lucy. We also ate homemade fig ice cream. Natalie and Adrian have a fig tree in their backyard. I had a fig straight off the tree. Deliciousness. (I admit that I also sampled the coconut and pandan leaf ice cream, the molasses ice cream, and either sampled or finished off the cookie dough ice cream. All homemade, just to remind everyone.)

Perhaps most importantly, Natalie and I played with beads. Natalie is a very talented bead artist. You can check out her stuff at www.natalieaustin.com.
Well, I have quite a bit of jewelry from the Natalie collection. Don't mind if I do show it off a bit.
Natalie made me the following earrings yesterday in about 4 minutes.

And, here's the blue collection. A variety of necklaces and earrings to match with my outfits.
My favorite piece ever is the necklace on the far left.
I lovelovelove it!

Moving on, we are now in the assorted collection where I keep my sea green beauty and my pineapple birthday earrings. I actually made the middle necklace this weekend. It's the almost gaudy, blue, star necklace in the middle. We had a ball together. I love talking over a craft project. A couple of funny things happened though. First of all, I spent over an hour putting my necklace together on this stretchy string. Natalie was then going to lay the beads out for me so I could string them on the real necklace strand. She was helping the beads off when suddenly, they all flooded. It was hilarious. However, I lost my trump card when putting the beads away. I was closing the lid on one of the bead boxes and accidentally tipped over another bead box. Now, please understand that it is truly a bead box. Full of little compartments, full of little beads, all sorted into colors. Not any more.

And, if all the jewelry wasn't enough, check out my new jewelry holder. Guess who gave it to me? Yeah, Natalie. I love it. So fun and the perfect size since I only wear a select 10 or 12 pairs of earrings.

Sadly, I lost my jar of homemade fig jam in the airport security line. Bummer.
Security officer: What is this?
Me: Homemade fig jam. (Lip starts to quiver. I hate being in trouble. And I hate losing homemade fig jam.)
Security officer: What's the consistency?
Me: Jam-like?

Well, I'm home and Scout is hoping for a friend. Off to the scorching outdoors for a walk.

Sounds like quite a trip! I'm so glad you and Natalie had some time to spend together. I agree with the delightfulness, and I'm totally jealous of that homemade ice cream - and those figs!

I have had the exact same thing happen to me inadvertently smuggling home some of my sister's homemade jam from their gardens in NC, too. Totally forgot about it, and the officer was like, 'what is this?' and I'm like, 'Ooooh nooo that's my JAM!' I bet there are some really tasty jams that get lost at security checks.
