Snowmass

We went on vacation last week to Snowmass, Colorado with my family. It was Hunter's first time to fly and he was a champ. It helped to have eleven people he could visit during the flight.
Here he is with William on the morning of the first flight. In fact, this is probably the spot where he picked up a little bug which he then generously spread to four other people in the house over the week.

We enjoyed some good time with family over the course of the vacation. However, it is quite a different experience to travel and vacation with a young child. I was really busy between skiing most or part of the day and then taking care of Hunter. Jared and I swapped off ski times and got babysitting help from family members. I'm not used to having to work my ski times around other people. I'm used to skiing from lifts open to lifts close, lounging in the hot tub for an hour then showering up, enjoying a nice dinner, and then talking and playing games with family members.

The hardest part was having Hunter sleep in the same room as us. We tried to tuck his crib in part of the closet, but he could still hear us at night and see us whenever he woke up. It made for very long nights because he would wake up and cry asking for company. I would always pick him up because I was trying not to wake up the entire house. He figured out very quickly that he could cry and I would pick him up. I felt that I was without an option to set boundaries with him and sleep because we were sharing a house with eleven other people. We very quickly reverted back to the early infancy stage of getting up every 3ish hours and I ended up exhausted by the end of the trip. It's hard to be lacking in sleep and then spend the next day exercising on the slopes.
When we brought Hunter home from the hospital after birth, he was very quickly moved from the bassinet by the bed to the crib in his room as an infant. I just couldn't sleep well hearing each little movement from him. So, I was thrilled to get home from vacation and put him back in his own room and bed. We need that space.

Most days I skied with this crew of seven guys. I called this the double black diamond crew as we had just wrapped up William's first double black diamond run prior to the photo.

We got home on Saturday night and I was thankful to have Sunday as a recovery day prior to heading back to work on Monday.
