So, it was a big day. Actually, it all started on Saturday morning. Jared noticed that my tire was low. He asked if the tire pressure light has been on. Well, yes, it has been on. But what had happened was the light always used to come on with my old tires. Every
freakin' day. The temperature went up a degree. The light came on. The temperature went down a degree. The light...you get the picture. So, Jared got me new tires and I didn't really notice the light. It's a norm in my life. Except that this time it meant something. Like a nail in the tire. (Seriously, I've had three windshields and three nails in my tires. Jared is starting to think I work at a construction site instead of at Bradford.) So, he borrowed the air compressor from Pop and woke up early to fill up the tire this morning so he could drive the
Xterra to work and then to the tire shop. He needed to back the jeep out first to get to the
Xterra tire. So, he backed up and in the process dented and scraped the paint on the side of the
Xterra with the open door of the jeep. (I noticed that he dented and scraped my car and not his....hmmm.) He then hooked up the air compressor which didn't work properly and promptly emptied the remaining air out of the tire until it was completely flat. So far, so good. I couldn't really do anything to fix the tire or the dent, so I kept on with the morning routine. This included taking a couple of bills to the mailbox. I headed out there in heels and with rollers in my hair. Scout decided, on this already wonderful morning, so freak out at the dog across the street and race over. I chased after her (think heels and rollers) and was yelling at the neighbor to not back out of the driveway at that moment. Scout and I
corralled each other back to the house. Jared decided to take an unpaid day off and get the tire fixed. I left the heels on, but took the rollers out and headed off to work. All this before 7am.
In better news, I ate fresh squash and zuchinni out of my garden today. I grew the vegetables from the earth! Ahhh. They tasted wonderful. I loved each bite. This evening Jared and I went out to look at the garden. I said quite loudly, "There aren't any damn watermelons yet!" Jared then pointed out that our neighbor was right behind the fence working in her backyard. I then proceeded to point out a squash that I thought was particularly "cute" because guys so appreciate cute vegetables. Take that.
Over the weekend, we went to the lake. It was wonderful. No internet, no TV, no phone. Just being present. It was the best mindfulness practice ever. We swam around. We skied and wakeboarded. We ate wonderful meals with fresh veggies and fruits. We played four square and cards. We listened to bluegrass music and sat around the fire. We played with the dogs. We just were and it was wonderful. I really hate these electronics that keep us so separated. The idea is that we all get closer and more tied together with facebook and phone and internet. But, I think we get pulled apart and distant. There is nothing like a lazy game of ladder ball with friends in the heat right before a late evening ski on glassy water. That is connection. That is living in the moment. That is being away from other people's pictures on facebook where I get paranoid about not having enough fun in life or not being successful enough or blah, blah, blah. I didn't even take a picture over the weekend. I probably should have, but I didn't want to. I didn't want to miss a moment by trying to capture it and keep it forever. I just wanted the moment right then.
