Hot pink trucker hat

Before I stopped working full time I was worried about how Hunter and I would fill our days. I thought we might end up bored and wandering around the house looking for something to do. So far, this has not been the case and I do no suspect that it will become so as the fall and holiday activities are upon us. Hunter and I have had visitors in the form of my mother and Jared's grandmother. We've had a planned play date and then a spontaneous one today with a new family I met on our walk. We've been the park to feed the ducks and played on the playground. In fact, we've only been to the YMCA once and haven't even made it to the library. We've yet to pick apples and the pumpkin patches are sprouting up. As always, it's fun to watch Hunter explore this great big world, to watch him move more confidently around the playground, to watch him interact with other children even when there are no words being used, to watch him break the barriers and introduce me to other mothers and families we encounter on our journey.

There are certainly hard times as well. Hunter has been sleeping through the night beautifully for several months now, but he had a hard time last night. I think his incoming molars might have been hurting him because he woke up three times screaming his head off. When I tickled him upside down today to get a view of the teeth, the new ones coming in are impressive and certainly look painful breaking through the gums. I learned the hard way not to stick my finger in his mouth to feel around on the teeth!
I started my new MOPS (mother of preschoolers) group today. I dropped Hunter off at the childcare area around 9:50am and picked him up around 12:05pm. He was crying when I got there and apparently had been sad on and off during the morning. I felt so sad for the little guy. It must be scary to be left with strangers for over two hours with no warning. I hope he learns to like it because they did play outside and take wagon rides and eat a snack. I'm sure it didn't help that the other two children were crying when it was time to leave so it was a bit chaotic and they were all totally tired. Hunter usually naps around 11 or 11:30am so he was pooped out, especially after his difficult night.

In other news, I went to Slide the City with Melissa and her brother over the weekend. It was super fun and the best people watching in the world as in way better than the mall or the airport. Way, way better. Something about people of all races and ages careening down a wet tarp on small inner tubs in various states of dress/undress makes for good entertainment. That plus the bands and food trucks (hello nachos! bundt cake! funnel cake!) along with good friends made for a wonderful day. I'm still sore in odd places and have been friendly with the aleve.

And we got trucker hats! Melissa and I wore them all day long.
