Honey Bee

The world and all its responsibilities is hurdling towards me at an alarming rate. I only have six business days until life at Vanderbilt begins. Help! At least the days of nothingness have been lovely and were made even more so by the presence of Jared, Amy, and Michelle yesterday. Amy drove in from Detroit on Wednesday and I've been playing hostess in my mother's house as she is out of the country
la-tee-daaing with Uncle David and Aunt Kathi. Amy and I cooked corn risotto stuffed poblano peppers from Smitten Kitchen's new cookbook. Amy is quite the cook and knew all about roasting those little bad boys on an open flame in the kitchen. They were delicious with the lime tortilla chips and fresh salsa from Honey Bee market. Where is Honey Bee market? Oh, it's in Detroit. You must have connections to get this glorious salsa and connections I have.

We also had drinks in the form of mango margaritas (virgin or not). Also, because I'm patriotic we had flag toothpicks in the drinks although I have to admit that I couldn't find the drink umbrellas that have probably never existed in this home anyway.

We rounded the evening off with skillet apple pie a la mode, a fire in the fireplace, and conversations about our feelings as Jared described it which was simply answering questions about the top three fun events of the last year, the top three more challenging, etc. Yes, it was my idea and yes, I did have some preparation time due to the last blog post. It was wonderful and somehow Jared worked hunting into the conversation about every three minutes.

Finally, the night had to end and the puppies put themselves to bed. Warren and Jackie's dog, Hershey, is on the right. It's like having two toddlers in the house. I cannot use the bathroom alone, take out the trash without major assistance, or check the fridge for snack options without two extra sniffing noses. They despise and love each other. Follow each other around, run from each other, and are becoming allies in the squirrel chasing endeavors. Thankfully, they put themselves to bed when tired and sleep quietly through the night.

Have a wonderful Friday. Amy and I are off to tour the Music City hall of fame!
