Jared and I went to the courthouse today and got our marriage license. It was one of the most unique experiences of my life. We kept asking each other questions about how it goes and then remembering that neither of us has done this before. We stood in line along with an assortment of other couples. I think we were all checking each other out couple-wise (or at least I was). How did they meet? Are they going to make it? Should Jared and I be holding hands right now as a demonstration of our love and affection? Oh, that couple is arguing over how to fill out the form. Is that a red flag?! I got so nervous that I forgot Jared's birthday and then Jared put three commas in our one address so that made me feel better. At least I wasn't the only nervous Nelly.
We got the marriage license and we have to seal the deal within 30 days. One of the employees asked each couple if they were getting married right then. I think Jared would have gotten married on the spot, but I am so wearing that dress and people are going to admire those hand-stenciled programs. Yes, that means you. Please admire and then happen to mention how wonderful everything is to me.
And then the lady forgot to charge us the $43.50. Jared and I were walking out of the courthouse when he remembered. We went back and asked if we needed to pay (please say no!). Of course, we did and the lady thanked us for our honesty. We figured that starting out our marriage with a non-paid for marriage license was not the way to start a life together. Even if it wasn't our mistake.
