We returned home from the beach on Thursday and I took Hunter to the pediatrician on Friday to follow up on his under-the-weatherness. For the first time, we were not in the well child area and Hunter was delighted to play with the new toys. All I could think about was all the germs that he was acquiring as he ran around touching everything.
We were then moved to a patient room where we waited for the doctor for over 30 minutes. This is a very, very long time in a small room with a one year-old. We played with all of the toys I brought (all of which ended up on the dirty floor) and looked at the available children's books. At one point, Hunter was exploring the room and laid down on the floor and gave it a lick. I thought of several options for proceeding including snatching him up and leaving immediately as I was sure that whatever bugs he had just inhaled were far worse than the one we came to see the doctor about. I opted to stick it out and waited to see the pediatrician who ultimately provided me with reassurance about Hunter's bug and some guidance for moving forward.
I will say though that it is difficult to listen intently to a doctor while entertaining a kiddo who is bored by the little room where he is not allowed to lick the floor (at least a second time) and where all of the cabinets are locked and the toys are dirty and packed away and his mother is tired. Ha.
Jared is about halfway through his summer class. Hunter likes to help out with the health assessment.
Hunter has been spending time with my mom (Grammy) and Jared's grandmother (Grandma) while Jared is in class. This is Hunter after a visit to see Grammy. She filled a coin purse with goldfish for the win.
They also played with bubbles for the first time and I adore looking at this picture of Hunter's sweet face.
Mom also took Hunter shoe shopping at the same place were she took me. Hunter got a fancy pair of white shoes for an upcoming photo shoot and a pair of good brown sandals.
Grandma has helped out for a couple of weeks. She loves to share anything with anyone and Hunter discovered that he loves corn on the cob with Grandma's help. I had previously trimmed the corn off of the cob for Hunter, but munching on it straight with butter and salt is way more fun.
In other news, I read Erik Larson's Dead Wake which is his best book to date in my opinion. I loved learning the history of the sinking of the Lusitania. I'm almost done with Do No Harm by neurosurgeon Henry Marsh and have found his recounting of his own successes and failures to be quite interesting.
I'm also watching House of Cards on Netflix and crave each episode. Thus, no blog in over two weeks!
